Introduction
In 2016, Mr. Carl Wu left Blackstone and co-founded New Frontier Group with former Hong Kong Financial Secretary Antony Leung to enter the healthcare industry. Three years later, New Frontier acquired the United Family Healthcare (UFH), a high-end healthcare organization with a 25-year history in China, for $1.44 billion. Under his leadership, UFH has entered a period of expansion, building new hospitals in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing. In this talk, Mr. Carl Wu will share his experiences and life choices, including why he left a high-paying career in finance to start his own healthcare business, and how he completed the highly anticipated acquisition of the United Family in 2019. He will also share his thoughts on how he views the opportunities in China's healthcare market and how he defines and plans for high-end healthcare.

Under his leadership, New Frontier has developed into a full lifecycle, patient-centric healthcare company in China, with operations ranging from general and specialty hospitals, primary and urgent care services, rehabilitation hospitals, home health care, health insurance solutions, and medical technology, servicing approximately 10 million patients annually across 50 cities in China.
Mr. Wu is currently the CEO of New Frontier Health / United Family Healthcare. He is also the Executive Chairman and Co-founder of YD Care, Heal Medical, NF Greater Bay Health Holding / Shenzhen Sanjiu Hospital, Better Health and Prosper Health, and the Chairman of Care Alliance.
Mr. Wu holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he graduated with First Class Honors. Prior to founding New Frontier, Mr. Wu was a Managing Director at Blackstone and executed some of Blackstone’s most important investments in China. He was a founding member of Blackstone Asia, and was instrumental in establishing Blackstone’s business in China.
Mr. Wu was acknowledged by Fortune as one of the “40 under 40” global business and political leaders in 2021.

Professor Fong Yuk Fai is Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business and Professor of Department of Economics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he is also in charge of the HKUST Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program.
Professor Fong specializes in applied microeconomic theory, business strategy, quantitative investment strategy, industrial organization, and antitrust economics and competition policy, and his research results have been published in internationally renowned academic journals. Professor Fong is also an active promoter of business administration education and has extensive teaching and management experience in the areas of MBA, EMBA, and executive education programs. He was awarded the Franklin Prize for Teaching Excellence by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2017 in recognition of his outstanding teaching performance.
In addition to his research and teaching, Professor Fong is also committed to serving the community through various public offices and is currently a member of the Hong Kong Competition Commission and the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee. He has extensive consulting experience, having worked as a strategy and marketing consultant for major corporations, and currently advises and guides the quantitative investment research team of a fund company.
Professor Fong received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and his PhD in Economics from Boston University. Professor Fong had taught at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University and the University of Hong Kong.
